testCape West Rotary wishes to thank Plaza Tire Service for becoming our first Paul Harris Sponsor for our scholarship program.  This distinction makes Plaza Tire Service our marquee sponsor for 2008. Pictured from left Norman Glaus, Steve Schneider, and Rick Kennard of Cape West Rotary and Mark Rhodes and Scott Rhodes of Plaza Tire Service.  Their generous sponsorship commitment, along with the support of our other corporate sponsors, allows our organization to provide more needed scholarships to working students.
Service has been an important part of the Plaza Tire Service name since 1963.  The Rhodes Family, owners of Plaza Tire Service, supports the Cape West Rotary scholarship program in order to serve working students throughout the company's service area.  "Awarding scholarships to working students allows and encourages them to further their education, which will not only benefit them but the entire area as well" says Scott Rhodes.  "Plaza Tire Service is proud to be part of the Cape West Rotary Scholarship Program"

Cape West Rotary of Cape Girardeau, Mo., provided scholarships to 85 Southeast students during the 2007-08 school year. The scholarships are awarded to working Southeast students who qualify for financial assistance.

Jeremy Verhines, a Rotary scholarship recipient, says that the scholarship will help tremendously as he works hard to achieve his dreams.

“I am working two jobs to support my family and pay tuition,” said Verhines. “I am so thankful for the Rotary Scholarship; it will go farther than they could ever imagine.”

Verhines and several other recipients attended a Cape West Rotary meeting on Jan. 31, 2008, to officially accept the scholarships. Nearly 20 students were present to thank the Rotary for their support. One by one each student stepped to the microphone and told the crowd about themselves. From first-year students to non-traditional students who are supporting their families while taking classes, it was easy for the Rotary to see what kind of difference they are making in the lives of students.

“It is so gratifying to see students benefiting from this scholarship program,” said Tony Buehrle, Cape West Rotary member. “Our whole effort is to provide support for working students. Hopefully, these scholarships will help these unique students reach their goals.”
